A Different Calibration

To Drifter the arrival of Calibration in Creation means that he needs to batten up his shop and spend the rest of the five days at home while the rest of the outside world fights against the mad rushes of nature.

One year later, as a Solar, he now thought otherwise.

It was the first night of Calibration and the villagers were throwing a small celebration with aid from their Celestial masters. Akira Silverwing had recently perfected her special liquor concoction, dubbed as the Iron-Palm Lambanog and its become the highlight of the celebration, driving nearly everyone sober except for Drifter and his newfound Twilight colleague, Beseeching Invitation Towards Crimson Heaven, or bitchy as he fondly calls her.

Before the soberness even settled in, Midday Emerald had called her Celestial colleagues into a meeting and discussed the instatement of a new Solar Deliberative in the Western Region, them having managed to solidify their hold in a small dominion and now doing their best to sustain and expand their influence. Eventually several ideas were thrown across the table and they did manage to formulate an idea or two about the new government organization that they would be having. Not that Drifter took in much, though, as he was still preoccupied with his problems regarding the restorations needed in his manse.

The following morning seemed to herald an answer to his problems in part, as he found himself alerted by a villager about the presence of Fair Folk on their shores. Bothered by such a troublesome occurence, he checked for himself and indeed, several Fair Folk mounted on watery horses stood in the horizon of their island, melding creatively against the waves and cast aglow by the rising sun. Drifter called for his fellow Celestials and they all proceeded to meet with the Fair Folk, Naar Kalaman on the lead and keeping Raging Snowstorm occupied with other matters to keep him from inciting a full-scale war.

It turned out that the Fair Folk meant little harm and just wanted to conduct business with their dominion in peace. To this extent Naar Kalaman sanctified the agreement and the Fair Folk pitched camp in the shore and dealt business with the people - mortal and Exalt alike. Akira even won some quality time with a really good-looking Fair Folk individual who even offered her quite lewd gifts.

Drifter, however, was lost as to what to offer in exchange for the things that he might possibly need. A Fair Folk merchant did confirm that he had a material among Drifter's list of ingredients, and was asking for adequate payment. His mind raced for ideas until his eyes rested on the Fair Folk's chariots - rather bland and lifeless.

"Tell me," Drifter said, pointing at the chariots. "How would you like me to bring a little touch of elegance on your rides? I presume that merchants with such bland appearance on their caravans would not appear tradeworthy to any merchant port in the Western Region, yes?"

"You strike a good point there, friend." the Fair Folk said. "Do you have the ideas for making this improvements in your mind?"

"A good amount of it, yes. I am an artificer by trade and creating is my specialty."

"Then that should be sufficient trade for me. May I touch you?"

"Uh... by all means."

The Fair Folk reached over to Drifter's forehead and placed his hand upon it. At once, Drifter felt the ideas of improving the chariot steeds seep out of his mind and become completely forgotten in a matter of seconds. The Fair Folk then smiled and handed him a Perfected Pearl - raised from the very depths of the Western Ocean near the Elemental Pole of Water.

Drifter's objectives moved a little closer - but he wonders whether it was favorable for him, for the Fair Folk, or for both.
