A New Beginning

It was even a great miracle that Drifter and Knife managed to reach the island that Knife talked about, for some of his companions went looking for him after being missed for quite some time and altogether they returned to the island, leaving Knife's battered ship, The Mid-Day Shadow, behind.

"I'll get that thing fixed for you, don't worry about it." Drifter said, patting the pirate's back as he stared at his half-mangled ship. Solid patches of water held the open hull together, thanks to his hearthstone that enables him to solidify water as he wishes.

They reached the Isle of Forbidding Shadows after a few hours, and Drifter found himself introduced to Knife of the Ocean's companions - Solars as well, and one Lunar who was currently deep in the sunken Luthe, according to what he had heard. They introduced themselves to Drifter and the young Solar had to acquaint himself with all of them. In a nutshell, except for Knife, whom Drifter already knew before, they are:

  • Captain Naar Kalaman - an Eclipse Caste, owner of the huge ship that Drifter took as a rather old one that would need quite a lot of patching up thanks to the thick layer of barnacles and other sea waste that seemed to have clung on the hull. He was let in on the fact, though, that the "old ship" was actually a First Age-intact Ark of First Light, although it will need considerable maintenance before it can be completely fielded in the sea. For now, he says it was just for transportation.
  • Raging Snowstorm - the Dawn Caste who appeared to Drifter like a barbarian, although with a demonstration of his Everyman armor, he was completely unrecognizable. Apparently he has a flair for fighting and the arts of war, constantly training himself and the band of people that seemed to reside in the island.
  • Azure Heart of the Sunrise - a Zenith Caste, an excellent speaker and charmer of words, for Drifter listened at his explanations with great intent. During his first few hours the two were engaged in deep conversation about possibilities that Drifter can make with his newfound abilities and how they can raise the great wonders of the First Age to help in their nation-building.
  • Cynis Akasha - Drifter heard very little of this woman, but the others say she is also a Twilight Caste, similar to his, and the group's sorcerer-engineer. However, she has disappeared of late and has not returned yet. Captain Naar Kalaman is already planning to arrange for a tracker to look for her.
  • Akira Silverwing - The Lunar, as Drifter took it, who apparently had gone to the sunken city of Luthe for certain reasons. From what he heard from the captain she appeared to be a charming and admirable woman of grace and beauty.
  • Peleps Nuada - although a Dragon-Blooded Water aspect, Drifter found it confusing that a Dragon-Blood was serving their ranks. He didn't bother asking, though, for the man appeared to be quite a nice one and very helpful during their meeting.
Afterwards, Knife of the Ocean filled the others in regarding Drifter's Exaltation and the assault of the Dragon-Blooded on their ship. After which it was followed by a very thorough meeting regarding their current objectives, which is to build a nation right here in the Isle of Forbidding Shadows. Many plans and discussions were drawn during the lengthy meet, and all Drifter could do for most of the time was to rest up and pay half attention to what was being said, for his efforts, after being twice exerted that day, took quite a toll on him.

"Drifter?"

He snapped out of his reverie as Azure lightly tapped him on the shoulder. He was unaware that he was already sleeping on his chair.

"Oh, sorry, my apologies for sleeping. What is it?" Drifter asked.

"That's all right. I just wanted to tell you that you will be put in charge of making the farming tools for our farm plantation. I'm afraid our farmers will need sufficient tools to till the soil, and Raging Snowstorm can't handle everything by himself."

"Oh, yes, I'll be fine with that, but I must do the repairs on the Mid-Day Shadow as well." Drifter said. "Is there a shipyard I can work on?"

"That won't be a problem." Knife said. "My manse is a perfect workshop. Since Akasha hasn't been using it since she left, you can work on the ship there. There's a functioning dry dock you can use. Oh, and you can also do the farm tools there."

"Great, thanks!"

"Right, that will be all for today." Naar Kalaman said.

Knife then proceeded to guide Drifter to his manse and taught him how to attune to it. Afterwards Drifter started working on the farming tools, while at the same time drawing up plans for repairing the hull damage in the Mid-Day Shadow. A new adventure starts for him!
